The Evolution of In-Car Audio
Technology has evolved considerably in recent years. Today, we can offer ultra-compact 12-volt amplifiers, equivalent to the size of a hand, with impressive output power. We also install speakers with neodymium magnets, reducing weight while increasing power compared to traditional ferrite magnets.
Intervention on post-2014 Harley-Davidsons
For Harley Davidson equipped with the Boom Box GTS after 2014, it is necessary to flash the car radio to obtain a flat EQ curve. In addition, we are certified to activate the rear outputs or install Harley-Davidson Stage 2 or Stage 3 presets, thanks to our official TECHNOSEARCH equipment for car radio flashing.
Installation on a 2021 Harley Road Glide
One of our recent projects was an installation on a 2021 Harley Davidson Road Glide , equipped with two stock speakers in the tower. Here is the equipment we installed for this project:
- 2 x 16.5 cm two-way midrange speakers – Hertz SX 165 NEO
- 4 x 15x23 cm oval speakers – Hertz SX690.1 NEO
- Soundigital 1200.4 EVO 4.0 Amplifier – 4x221 Watt RMS under 1 Ohm
- Rockford Fosgate DSR-1 Digital Processor
Choice of equipment and customer expectations
The client wanted a "show car" motorcycle for rallies, with exceptional sound quality. The challenge was also to offer pleasant listening at 130 km/h on the highway, without being bothered by engine noise or the environment. The Soundigital 1200.4 amplifier proved perfect thanks to its compactness, which allowed us to house it in the fork head. With the Rockford Fosgate DSR-1 digital processor, we were able to adjust the equalization curve, manage frequency cuts and synchronize the front and rear thanks to a smartphone application.
Speaker isolation and optimization
To maximize speaker performance, we insulated the front with specific CTK materials, allowing for better exploitation of the Hertz SX 165 NEO . At the rear, we replaced the saddlebag lids, which did not have original speakers, with lids housing two Hertz SX690.1 NEO elliptical speakers on each side. These speakers can go down to 65Hz , thus using the saddlebags as a resonance box to provide optimal sound reproduction.
Assembly and technical adjustments
We used a full bypass harness from Rockford Fosgate , which allowed us to leave the bike's stock wiring harness untouched, a reassuring feature for customers looking to preserve their post-2014 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. We also enabled CarPlay and Android Auto on the Boom Box GTS stereo, and installed custom handlebars with Harley-Davidson heated grips.
