Cause of voice coil damage (subwoofer / speaker)
Cause of voice coil damage (subwoofer / speaker)
Voice coil damage in a subwoofer or speaker is generally due to improper use and not a manufacturing defect.
This can happen due to clipping, excessive excursion, or power that does not match the product.
Clipping "distortion" occurs when the amplifier is overdriven or improperly adjusted. The audio signal becomes distorted, causing the voice coil to heat up and burn out.
Excursion refers to the movement of the speaker cone. If the volume is too high or the settings are incorrect, the cone can move too far, and the voice coil can hit the magnet's backplate, damaging the speaker.
In most cases, a burned or broken voice coil is therefore related to incorrect use or settings.
🔧 Malfunction Due to Improper Use
If the diagnosis confirms improper installation or non-compliant use:
- The warranty will not apply.
- No monetary refund can be granted.
- Costs will remain the responsibility of the customer.
