A correctly sized and installed amplifier guarantees performance, reliability, and longevity. The majority of failures result from inadequate power supply or wiring.

1. How to Choose Your Amplifier

Real RMS Power

Choosing the Right RMS Power

RMS power is the only reliable value for sizing an amplifier.

We recommend choosing an amplifier that delivers approximately 10 to 20% more RMS power than the RMS power of the speaker or subwoofer.

Example:
1000W RMS Subwoofer → recommended amplifier: 1100 to 1200W RMS at the adapted impedance.

This margin allows for:

  • Avoiding pushing the amplifier into saturation
  • Limiting clipping
An underpowered amplifier used at full capacity is more dangerous than a slightly more powerful amplifier that is correctly set.

Gain adjustment remains essential: the CLIP LED should never light up.

Number of Channels

  • Mono: subwoofer
  • 2 channels: front component speakers or bridged sub
  • 4 channels: full system
  • 5 channels: all-in-one solution

Minimum Impedance

Never go below the minimum impedance indicated by the manufacturer.
Example: 1Ω stable amplifier → use at 0.5Ω = risk of destruction.

Too low an impedance can cause overheating, protection mode, and destruction of internal components.

2000W RMS and Above Amplifiers

High-power amplifiers require an adapted power supply.

An original battery is often insufficient for 2000W RMS and above.

Recommended solutions:

  • Audio-grade AGM or Lithium battery
  • Auxiliary battery
  • Upgraded alternator
  • Engine ground reinforcement (Big 3 Upgrade)

2. OFC Cable: Essential for Powerful Amplifiers

For amplifiers from 1000W RMS (and essential above 2000W), OFC copper cable is mandatory.

OFC cable offers:

  • Superior conductivity
  • Less voltage drop
  • Better stability under heavy load
  • Less heating

CCA cables cause more voltage drop and can lead to clipping, overheating, and internal degradation.

3. Professional Installation Guide

Operating Voltage

Normal range: 12.6V to 14.7V
Ideal with engine running: 13.8V to 14.4V

It is highly recommended to install a voltmeter as close as possible to the amplifier.

Cable and Fuse Sizing

  • Adapt to your amplifier; refer to the manufacturer's manual
  • Fuse within 30 cm of the battery
  • Never under-size

Wiring Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal
  2. Install the fuse holder near the battery
  3. Connect +12V / GND (sanded ground) / REM
  4. Install RCA cables separate from power cables
  5. Respect polarity and minimum impedance

Gain Adjustment

  1. Disable EQ and Bass Boost
  2. Set car radio volume to 70–75%
  3. Set gain to minimum, then gradually increase
The CLIP LED must not light up.
If it lights up: immediately reduce gain or volume.

4. Warranty and Reliability

Failures related to undervoltage, incorrect impedance, prolonged clipping, or poor installation are detectable during a technical diagnosis and are generally not covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

All brand-name amplifiers undergo a conformity and operational test at the factory. Manufacturing defects are rare.
